'One of the leading schools in the south of England' Reverend Nathaniel Woodard founded the School in a few small rooms in Shoreham in 1858. Moving to its magnificent site at Ardingly in 1870, it was the tall and immensely commanding George Snow who in the following years put Ardingly on the map, when both the Queen and Prime Minister (Harold Macmillan) visited the School in 1958 to mark its Centenary. In the subsequent 50 years Ardingly has gone from strength to strength and become one of the leading co-educational schools in the south of England.
The location
Ardingly College is set in over four hundred hectares of glorious Mid Sussex countryside. The impressive, largely Victorian buildings act as an oasis in the tranquillity of the rolling, typically English landscape. The small town of Ardingly has approximately 2000 inhabitants. Just outside the village lies Ardingly lake where water sports can be enjoyed. The location of the College, just twenty minutes from Gatwick, one hour from Heathrow and one and a half hours from Ashford/Dover, makes it a very popular venue for international students. It also very close to the seaside town of Brighton making it the ideal location.
